Our Lady’s Island: A Day of Prayer and Peace

A day of prayer and peace at Our Lady’s Island 🙏
Yesterday, members and friends of the Vocations Society of St Joseph gathered for our annual pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island in Wexford.
Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Seamus McEntee, Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Dublin, along with time for Confession, quiet Adoration, and the Rosary.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in person and in spirit to pray for an increase in holy vocations to the priesthood. May Our Lady continue to intercede for our priests, seminarians, and future vocations!

Bishop Phonsie: The Story of Fr Donal O’Sullivan’s Chalice

At the Vocations Society of St Joseph, our core mission centres on praying for priestly vocations. Sharing sacred objects, like the chalice of the heroic Fr. Donal O’Sullivan, is just one way we do that. This chalice was entrusted to our Society by his nephew, after being carried onto the battlefields by Fr Donal during World War I.

To ensure that future generations are inspired to the priesthood, this chalice, with Fr Donal’s story, travels to different parishes and schools. Bishop Alphonsus (Phonsie) Cullinan is currently bringing it around the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore. Watch Bishop Phonsie share the story of the chalice in the video below, and join us in praying for an increase in holy vocations.

More can be read about the chalice in an article from the Sheaf Spring 2016 Edition by clicking here.

Welcoming the New Bishop of Derry & Thanking Bishop Donal

The Vocations Society of St Joseph warmly welcomes the announcement that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Michael Router as the new Bishop of Derry.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Bishop Michael and assure him of our prayers and spiritual support as he prepares for his formal installation in September and begins his new episcopal ministry in the diocese.

At the same time, we wish to express our deepest gratitude to Bishop Donal McKeown following the announcement of his retirement after years of faithful service to the Diocese of Derry. We are immensely grateful for the consistent encouragement, guidance, and generous support Bishop Donal has shown to The Vocations Society of St Joseph and our work in promoting and supporting vocations over the years.

We invite all our supporters and friends to join us in praying for Bishop Michael as he steps into this new leadership role, and for Bishop Donal as he begins this new chapter in his ministry.

St. Joseph, Patron of Vocations — Pray for us.
